Steamer
All 4/4 through 12/4 thick Walnut is steamed prior to the kiln drying process. Other species, like Cherry, are occasionally steamed per our customers requests. The steamer at the facility, built in 2006, has a total capacity of 25,000 board feet. The building is an all aluminum structure provided by KDS and features both additional insulation for energy efficiency as well as a stainless steel interior for additional corrosion prevention. The steamer provides a more uniform color and blending of heartwood and sapwood.
