WALNUT – Juglans nigra

WALNUT – Juglans nigra

Walnut is straight grained and works well with hand or machine tools. Light brown to dark heartwood and sapwood nearly white.

Walnut is steamed before kiln drying to blend the heartwood and the sapwood. The wood is heavy, hard, and stiff. NHLA grading rules are different for Walnut by being more forgiving for natural defects.

Walnut is commonly used in veneer, furniture, fixtures, cabinets, interior paneling, and flooring.
