RED OAK – Quercus rubra

RED OAK – Quercus rubra

The heartwood in Red Oak is light wheat to a dark reddish brown in color. The sapwood is white to very light brown.

Northern Red Oak is highly sought after due to its typically consistent light color and lack of dark mineral streaks. Oak has a course texture. Red Oak is heavy, hard, very stiff, and strong. Red Oak is typically straight grained. With its slower growth, Northern Red Oak usually has a tighter grain pattern.

Red Oak is commonly used in furniture, mouldings, flooring, cabinets, trailer beds, and veneer.
