Hardwood Species
Devereaux Sawmill specializes in products derived from our highly sought after Michigan resource. Whereas our mainstay and largest volume of production has been with White Hard Maple, we also process Red Oak, White Oak, Hickory, Soft Maple, Walnut, Cherry, and other species. While all logs we harvest are from within a 150-mile radius of our mill, we currently process 17 million feet through our kilns and ship to a wide base of satisfied customers both domestically and internationally.

WALNUT – Juglans nigra
Walnut is straight grained and works well with hand or machine tools. Light brown to dark heartwood and sapwood nearly white.
SOFT MAPLE – Acer rubrum
Soft Maple resembles Hard Maple but is not as heavy, hard or strong. In Michigan, Red Leaf Soft Maple is most predominant.
RED OAK – Quercus rubra
The heartwood in Red Oak is light wheat to a dark reddish brown in color. The sapwood is white to very light brown.
HICKORY – Carya spp.
Hickory is known for its strength and shock resistance. White sapwood and heartwood pale to reddish brown.
HARD MAPLE – Acer saccharum
Because of recent popularity in lighter wood tones, production of Hard Maple has expanded tremendously in the past decade.
