CHERRY – Prunus serotina
While the heartwood of cherry is a reddish-brown color, the sapwood is yellow. Heartwood will darken upon exposure to sunlight after a period of time. Cherry is of medium density, firm and strong, with a fine, uniform texture. The grain is generally straight.
Cherry is used in fine furniture, cabinets, and mouldings. Cherry is highly regarded in veneer.
At Devereaux Sawmill:
- Cherry is offered in 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, and 8/4 thickness.
- Lumber is available in 3Com and better grades. A rustic Cherry grade sort, which is virtually all heartwood, presents many knots and some quarter sawn appearance.
- Rift and quartered cut Cherry is cut regularly.
